Kawhocumdia (Paperback): Donald Henson Kawhocumdia (Paperback)
Donald Henson
R876 Discovery Miles 8 760 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Kidnapped by alien visitors, a young man finds himself with power beyond belief. The programming of formulas gave him the answers to questions asked by human beings since the beginning of time. Then he learned he was the first human being to survive his programming. The good alien, Zadator, saved his life and gave him a space ship to return to earth. When he got back to his planet earth, he recruited two young men to help him save earth and the human race. Others are eventually brought into the fold and details become highly complicated and dangerous for all involved. Time travel, human beings with super powers beyond the human imagination, the power to cloak anything, including you, any individual, what else would a person need. Let us do not stop there. The capturing of Sam Orrington, pronounced Warrington, turned into a rescue by Zadator that allowed Sam to escape his near death and gain a friend that is one of the main good aliens. Sam hears his friend during his programming but does not see him until he has escaped from the planet Veltrex Eta. It begins with one of the main characters mentioned above in his kidnapped state of mind. The author explains the details of his capture, the things that he is feeling and what this will mean to his life now and in the future. We feel ourselves experiencing his transformation from a normal young man into a super being of incomprehensible magnitude. Sam being shot in the back of his neck with some alien drug immobilizes him and is dragged like a sack of potatoes to a van by a mob like council from the organization of super powered aliens. Zadator is a leader in the programming of his people and human beings but the council has tried for a long time to gain control. They have failed through the efforts of Zadator and his confidants and will always fail as long as Zadator is around. Sam's horrifying experience becomes the most unbelievable most important event in the history of earth and its inhabitance.

Origins of the Anglo-Saxons (Paperback, 2nd Revised edition): Donald Henson, Ann Hagen Origins of the Anglo-Saxons (Paperback, 2nd Revised edition)
Donald Henson, Ann Hagen
R701 Discovery Miles 7 010 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

By the 4th century AD Britain was witnessing the break down of Roman identity and by the mid-6th century a number of kingdoms had been created which paved the way for the Germanic take-over. Frustrated with other studies of the origins of the Anglo-Saxons which, Donald Henson argues, are generally over-reliant on archaeological sources and social theories of change taken from prehistory, share a lack of objectivity and have tended to polarise the debate regarding this period, he presents his interpretation of the origins and formation of Anglo-Saxon identity and ideas of nationhood. Drawing on sources and ideas from archaeology, social anthropology, sociology, history, language and literature, his study is a thematic examination of ethnic markers rather than a history of events. In studying ethnic markers such as kinship, origins, name, land, language, religion, material culture, myths and legends, and social and political structures, he examines what happened to ethnic identity after the withdrawal of the Romans and attempts to reconcile the importance of continental connections and migrations on the one hand and the desire to hold on to existing ethnic markers on the other. A number of subjects and sources are dealt with in more detail in the appendices including a discussion of rulers outside of Britain, early Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, a chronology of Anglo-Saxon material culture, Germanic and British place names, sources on Arthur, a timeline 406-634, and a list of key sources of the period.

Archaeology Hotspot Great Britain - Unearthing the Past for Armchair Archaeologists (Hardcover): Donald Henson Archaeology Hotspot Great Britain - Unearthing the Past for Armchair Archaeologists (Hardcover)
Donald Henson
R1,585 Discovery Miles 15 850 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Archaeology Hotspots series offers reader-friendly and engaging narratives of the archaeology in particular countries. Written by archaeological experts with a general reader in mind, each book in the series focuses on what has been found and by whom, what the controversies and scandals have been, ongoing projects, and how it all fits into a broader view of the history of the country. In Archaeology Hotspot Great Britain, expert Donald Henson first chronicles the deep archaeology of a long settled region-including England, Wales, and Scotland-then explores both the famously ancient finds (cave art at Creswell Crags, Stonehenge) and more recent and iconic historic sites and monuments (such as Westminster Abbey and Ironbridge Gorge). He profiles the often larger-than-life personalities and the previously-marginalized women who have contributed to British archaeology; the controversies influencing how we see the past are also highlighted. Henson considers London's position in the antiquities trade and the safeguarding of heritage sites. As a whole, the book tells a fascinating story of Great Britain's history, culture, national heritage, and ongoing role as a hotspot of archaeology.
